My name is George Shaffer. I am a retired associate professor of
mathematics. I was a member of the "American
Association
of University Professors" for 16 years. I have taught at the high school
level for 16 years and 21 years at the college level (16 years full time;
5 years part time). I have a special interest in electronics and have a
hobby of amateur radio; my call sign is (W8NTX). I was first licensed in
1953 and have had over 50 years of enjoyable hamming. I spent two years
teaching in Japan and my call sign there was (KA7GS). I am a member of
"The American Society of Dowsers", I practice meditation and have had vivid
visions, mostly in full color. The following remarks are some examples
of these visions.
I started teaching in the year 1949 at a very small high school in
the town of New Vienna, Ohio. There was another
young
man by the name of John Hughes who also was teaching at New Vienna School.
John and I became friends but after several years we both went our separate
ways and lost personal contact for quite a few years. Little did
I know at that time that John's youngest son would marry our daughter,
Janice. This event brought the families close together again and
we renewed old friendships. John died after a long and debilitating
illness (1/10/94) and his wife Laura died just a little over six months
later (7/30/94). I had several visions and visits after and before
the deaths of John and Laura. What follows is an accounting of these
visions. These visions are exactly as I wrote them at that time;
they may seem a bit naive but they are not embellished in any way.
(1-31-93) I was working at my farm shop when I heard a car come up
our driveway. I came out to see who it was, and I noticed that the car
parked about where I normally park the motor home. John Hughes got out
and started walking towards me. I knew John had just had an operation,
and I said," You shouldn't be out walking like this so soon after your
operation." John looked younger and very healthy and he told me not to
worry, every thing was all right and he felt fine. We started walking together
toward the house and John told me many things. When I awoke I could not
remember the things that he told me.
NOTE- I did not understand this dream. I knew John was still alive
and the dream did not make sense. Before going to sleep, I always ask for
visions of future events, and this dream may fit that category.
(8-7-94) The following was a vivid full color vision. I saw John Hughes sitting on a floor. I saw another person extending his hand to help him up. I did not look closely at the one extending a hand. At that time two thoughts occurred to me: (1) John would not be able to stand and (2) I am not sure who the person was that was extending a hand to help John. John took the hand and stood tall. He was very young--mid 20's to early 30's. John smiled, turned and looked at me, making eye contact.
NOTE- I had asked to get in contact with Laura (Johns wife who just recently died) but I got the above vision instead.
(8-7-94) I again asked to get in contact with Laura (John's wife who just recently died). This was after the above vision. I did not see her or hear her. I heard a male voice (off in the distance) say, "Very cold and frightened".
NOTE- I am not sure what this contact meant.
The children of John and Laura divided the property according to the will. The house with 70 acres of farmland and some remaining personal property were sold at a public auction. The following is what happened to me during that public auction.
(10-1-94) Imogene and I went to the Hughes' auction to maybe
bid on some personal property and to watch the house and some land parcels
sell. Imogene and I decided to tour the house before the sale. We looked
over the downstairs area then went to the second floor. Imogene and I went
into a small room with built-in cabinets, possibly a sewing room or toy
storage area. It was only about three feet wide and maybe eight feet long.
While in this room, I was so emotionally overcome that it chilled me from
head to foot. I was physically shivering. It was so unexpected and frightening
that I had to leave the second floor immediately.
Tim (John's son and my son-in-law), Janice (my daughter and Tim's
wife), and I have had dreams that Laura was having trouble making the change
over. The thought occurred to me that Laura was still within the house.
I knew that I must go back up the stairs to the second floor and try to
help. I really did not want to, but I knew I must. I asked Linda (my oldest
daughter who is very sensitive) to accompany me and we went back into that
small room. Linda stayed in the doorway so that others would not bother
me. I closed my eyes and immediately I had that same chilling experience.
I was determined to stay. I kept my eyes closed and waited for the dot
of white light to appear (it always appears for me if I close my eyes and
relax). The white light began moving away from me and expanded. The interior
of this white light was filled with sparkles of even brighter white light.
I then told Laura to look in the direction that I was looking and told
her to go immediately to the white light. I told her she would experience
a feeling of love the likes of which she had never felt before. I told
her to go now and not to hesitate. I also told her others would be there
to help; all she had to do was look for them. I was then overwhelmed by
a beautiful loving calm. Linda and I then left the house. I thought my
meditation had lasted just a few seconds but Linda said it was more like
five minutes. I doused when I returned home and asked if I might scry about
Laura but was not given permission to do so.
(10-2-94) I doused this afternoon to find out the status of Laura's soul. I found out she was now content and happy. I asked if it would be all right for me to scry this day and was given permission. I asked, "Show me Laura's face if she is now happy and content." Within five minutes her face appeared to me in the stone and this was the indication I needed to show me she was happy and content.
Tim and Janice had been having dreams that Laura had not completely made the transition. I told Tim that the helping hand in my previous vision could very well be his and he should go to the house and try to see if he could help. Tim had been to the house just a few days before and he saw his mother on the stairway. Tim did try to help but evidently the hand that was extended to John (the helping hand) must have been my hand.
I have had other visitations by deceased friends and relatives and
in every case they told me many things; but upon awakening, I could not
remember these things. As they were telling me these things,
I understood them thoroughly while in the hypnagogic state. I have
come to believe that when I am completely within the physical world, I
am not able to understand what is told me and this could be the reason
I do not remember.
Heber and Carol Newell were close friends of ours. Heber spent the
first part of his life as an industrial engineer
and
the latter part of his life he spent as a dairy farmer. Carol was a first
grade teacher at Hillsboro, Ohio and retired from that position. The Newells
were approximately 20 years older than Imogene (my wife) and I. Our
friendship came about because both families enjoyed motor homing and camping
in various national parks and state parks throughout this country.
We would do most of our motor homing in the wintertime and spend the summers
at our homes near Hillsboro, Ohio. We had a sort of tradition to
eat a luncheon together once a week. They would pick the location
one week and we would pick the location for the next week. We did
this for many years. Heber died on (6/19/96). He was 93 years old.
Heber had a relatively short illness before dying and he did not require
any pain medication. Heber was a staunch Methodist and followed that
doctrine very closely. With my liberal outlook and his conservative outlook,
our religious differences made for some very interesting discussions and
the wives might even call them arguments. In spite of these differences,
we tolerated each other and got along for many many years. Heber
visited me in dreams (visions) three times and these visits were rather
unique just as Heber was unique.
(6-18-96) I saw Heber and heard him say "Boy it is good to see you".
NOTE- I had asked for a future event and I believe this was an event after his death. Heber had not physically died yet.
(6-20-96) I saw a lamp with a heat spinner mounted above the bulb. When the bulb is turned on, the spinner will spin. This is the lamp that Heber set up and used in his living room. I also saw other things that Heber made. I then heard a female voice say, "He has had a nice trip."
NOTE- I had asked to make contact with Heber. Heber died (6-19-96). I believe this was the way Heber contacted me. I very seldom hear sounds in the hypnagogic state, and the voice made this vision very interesting.
(7-3-96) I saw a spoon floating toward me (I immediately thought of Heber Newell). I than saw a fork floating toward me and then a pair of false teeth followed by a pair of scissors (Heber had false teeth). The scissors cut the false teeth into two parts. I thought to myself, "Heber you must show me more if I am to understand." Another item began to form but I was losing the proper state of mind and the vision faded.
NOTE- I now know what Heber was telling me. Where Heber landed he does not have to eat anymore. With this vision, Heber has shown more about his spiritual world than if he had spoken to me.
These were the only three visits I had from Heber. I believe
Heber moved very quickly to a different level of awareness and never looked
back.
My mother (Nellie E. Shaffer) died October 2nd 1991. Mother had a
six month illness and was bed ridden the last two months of her life. Imogene
and I were essentially sitting at her death bed when we received word that
our
oldest son-in-law
had dropped dead of a heart attack. Our son-in-law (John) was just
39 years old. Mother was being taken care of at the Cleveland Clinic
Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and we had to rush back to New Vienna to help
take care of family affairs. Mother died before we were able to return
to Cleveland. My sister and her husband were at her bedside when
she passed away. Mother visited me twice, through visions, and she
tried very hard to give me information. Even though she made only
two visits (through visions), she was present in our home for about two
years. I would see her from time to time in our hallway, bedroom,
and workroom. The following two visions may offer an explanation
as to why she stayed as long as she did.
(10-15-91) I was in the waking process when I felt mother’s presence, but I did not see her. She clearly said to me, "Take care of the family."
(10-20-91) This was a lengthy visit. Mother appeared to me in the natural setting of my home. This was a clear vision and seemed very real. Mother looked younger and was strong and healthy. I asked if she was all right and where she was. Mother said she was fine and I was not to worry. Mother and I talked and she told me many things. I thoroughly understood what she told me. When I was fully awake, I could not remember what she said.
NOTE(1)- Several years later (1993) I was talking to my sister on the telephone and I asked her if she had any visits by mother. My sister said she received a strong impression that mother was with George. This impression was so strong that she told her husband about it.
NOTE(2)- I am sure mother was staying around to help take care of
the family. Mother was acting as a guardian angel to our oldest daughter,
Linda, whose husband died approximately the same time Mother did. Neither
Linda nor I have seen her lately and I am sure she has moved on to a higher
level of awareness.
John Chamblin,
our oldest son-in-law, died at the age of 39 as a result of a heart attack.
John made many visits to my wife, his wife, his sister-in-law and me after
his death. I will include only a few of the visits he made.
I hope that some of you will be able to gain some information from these
visions.
John was the fifth grade teacher at a small school just outside Hillsboro,
Ohio. John had been teaching for approximately 10 years and he died
during the school year of 1991. John could see the humorous side
of almost any situation and when he would tell a story of events and happenings
at school, it always had a funny aspect to it. John dearly loved
his job and his students. John eventually gave every student in his
class a nickname. John would give a nickname that he felt fit the personality
of the students. The students knew this and they also knew their
nicknames, and I believe they were very proud of these nicknames. Giving
these nicknames usually took the full school year and John had not yet
given everyone in his final class their nicknames. During the funeral
visitation (a practice which I think is archaic but we still must endure
it) it was amazing the number of his past and present students that came
through the visitation line. The school had passed around a sympathy card
for all of his present students and past students to sign. The school
then presented this card to John's wife, our daughter. His students had
signed the card, and in parentheses after their name, they put their nicknames.
I hope that this gives you some indication as to what kind of person and
teacher John Chamblin was.
(9-23-91) I was doing tractor work in the back 28 acre field.
I saw someone along the west fence. I knew he wanted to talk to me so I
got off the tractor; and when I got closer, I knew it was John. John
looked fine and smiled, then he extended his hand for a handshake. I knew
John was dead and I thought my hand would go right through his. When we
shook hands, it felt as real as mine; but it felt cold. I asked John how
he was and he said he was fine. I asked where he was and he talked to me
at length as we strolled down the field. I then awoke, but I can't remember
what he told me.
Note- As we were talking I seemed to fully understand all;
but no matter how hard I try, I cannot remember it now.
(10-4-91) I was lying in bed watching TV when John appeared at the bedroom door. He came right in and shook my hand. This time his hand was warm. (I felt he wanted to show me he was real) I was determined to find out where he was and I asked, "Where are you John?" John turned into a large teardrop which still looked like John. The tear drop floated above me and then hit me right on the top of the head shouting as it did this, "HOME!" I then awoke.
Note- John was always a joker, and I had the impression this was the second time he told me this. I am sure this was the way he was going to get me to remember.
(9-23-92) Imogene and I were sitting in the den watching TV, when someone knocked on the door. I opened the door and thought no one was there. John was not right in front of the door but off to the side and I didn't see him at first. He came bursting into view and sort of startled me. This is typical of John because he liked to do little pranks. John came in and sat in the chair next to the wood box (which is next to the wood burning heating stove). Imogene and I were on the couch. John seemed to want to tell me some things about where he was. As he was trying to describe this he became confused and looked confused. I said, "John is it difficult to hold things together in your state of awareness?" He just shook his head to indicate that it was. I asked John if he had visited me before. He looked confused and did not know how to answer. I then asked, "Did you ever visit me in my dreams?" John's expression changed to understanding and he said,"Yes." John said, “I told you that I live in many places now." I was so happy to remember one of our previous conversations and I said, "I remember that now" and I said this over and over again. I then awoke.
(2-28-93) Imogene and I were in the antique shop in New Vienna,
Ohio. This is the shop next to the post office. John came in and we both
clearly saw him. He came to us and I shook his hand and Imogene touched
his arm, but she would not look at him. John said, “I have to go home;
I have been here for years." John seemed confused and disoriented,
just the way he seemed on the Sept. 22,1992 visit. I was just ready
to tell John he must look for the light; that he would see it if only he
would look; and when he saw the light, others would come to help. At that
point I awoke. I hope that I may get another chance to tell him (if necessary).
(2-8-96) Imogene (my wife) and I were in our kitchen along with another young man probably in his early teens. It may have been one of our grandsons, I did not really see his face. This young man was comfortable around us and in our home. He also knew about John Chamblin. John Chamblin came into the kitchen and started talking to us. The young teenager said, “It can't be." He stopped after that and did not complete his sentence. I couldn't believe what I was seeing; John was there and seemed just as alive as the rest of us were. I even went to him and slapped him on the back to be sure. He went over and looked out of a window and saw some evergreen trees and said, "That is what I would like to have." I said, "Do you know how long that would take? Leslie (our youngest daughter) was just a little girl when they were planted." John walked over to us and said, "I am going to have to change jobs." He said the one he has at the institute is too challenging. He said, “I have to maintain a 6." I said, “That would be straight A's." John was trying to hold things together and I could see he was losing his ability to stay with us. John walked to the door, stepped outside the door, and closed it. I opened the door and all I saw was a Rhode Island Red chicken running down over the hill toward the road. I said, “Good-by, John."
NOTE- I believe my statement "that would be straight A's" confused John. I believe John was trying to tell me that he was on level 6 (spiritually) and it was going to be difficult to stay there. John always looked on the funny side of everything and changing to a chicken was just another one of his pranks. John was a redhead and proud of it.
That same night I had another dream with John in it. I was outside the house talking to John and he was telling me things. My sister and her husband were visiting. My sister heard someone talking and came out to see who it was. I said, “John was here." Imogene (my wife) also came out and my sister asked, “What did John have to say?” I was so emotionally involved that I could not speak. My sister left and I was able to tell Imogene that John told me things and I remembered them. When I awakened, I could only remember a few things. (1) While John was talking to me, he showed me a vision in which John was the main player. John was walking toward two rather unsavory looking men. He walked right up to them and with one punch knocked one flat. John quickly sat on his chest and as the other man attacked, John got up and made one quick kick to the chin and the other man was down. It did not seem like a fight of anger, but more of a contest. John got up and the other two got up and it was over, with no hard feelings. (2) I then asked John, “Is it better there than it is here?” John said he was not sure because he had not been in that place long enough.
NOTE- I believe the fight was shown to me in order to get my
attention so that I would remember what he told me in the last part of
the vision.
